Poem

Steady

I lied at night hoping no storm would hit. I hungered for storms. Lightning. Crash. Salt in my eyes. Blackened sky. No stars. I yearned to become Odysseus. I could not bear to be Nobody. Do your worst poseidon. Smite me! I mistook the curse for a calling. I crave the danger. I chose the calm. She lay beside me. Her breath. His unbound laughter in the sun. The taste of salt in the air. Clear blue sky. Ancient starlight spattering the dark. I understand what drives a man to weather ten years of storms to hear her breath once more. The storms call my name. nobody answers. I lie at night, hoping no storm will hit.
