Poem

Four

She swirls the merlot, breathing it in. She does not see my eyes roll. Nor does she hear the sigh of regret. For a moment I forgot I’m not built to spec. She offers me a sip. The stem has her warmth. I do not swirl. It’s dry. I like it. Hers is better.

Author’s note: I was born with nearly no sense of smell.
